 The
Clothes Closet is a joint project of RISD and the
Council of PTAs. The district provides the space and the
Council of PTAs provides volunteers and clothing.
Volunteers help deserving children in the RISD choose
gently used, fashionable, school appropriate clothing,
tennis shoes, outerwear and
toiletries for their 5 days. Students from Pre-K to high
school are seen by appointment following a referral by
their school counselors.
Volunteer opportunities abound at the Clothes
Closet. Each RISD school's PTA selects a day and
time to volunteer each month throughout the school year.
It is such a worthwhile project and a rewarding
experience.
This service depends on the community to provide volunteers, clothing, shoes and
toiletries. Monetary contributions (made out to
the RISD Council of PTAs) are used to purchase new
underwear, shoes and socks, and fill the gaps as needed
for jeans, tops and jackets. Donations can be made by
contacting the
PCE Clothes Closet Representative or
dropped off at the Clothes Closet on Mondays from 9:30 to
11am. The Clothes Closet is located one block
